App: Icebreaker by DreamSmyth LLC
What We Collect
- Account info: Email address and display name (provided at signup or via social login).
- Profile data: Bio, interests, talking points, and profile photo you choose to share.
- Location: GPS coordinates while using the app, used only to show nearby events and people. Never stored permanently or shared with third parties.
- OAuth data: When you connect YouTube, Spotify, Discord, or GitHub, we import interests (subscriptions, top artists, etc.) to build your profile. We do not store your OAuth tokens long-term.
How We Use It
- To match you with people who share your interests at events.
- To show your profile to other users at the same event (only when you actively check in).
- To let other users send you approach requests.
What We Don't Do
- We never sell your data.
- We never share your data with advertisers.
- We never track you when you're not using the app.
- We never store your exact GPS coordinates permanently.
Your Controls
- Incognito mode: Browse without being visible to others.
- Block/report: Block any user at any time.
- Delete account: Permanently delete all your data from the app settings.
Data Storage
Your data is stored on a secure server in Germany. We use HTTPS encryption for all connections.
YouTube and Google API Data
When you sign in with YouTube or import your YouTube interests, Icebreaker uses Google APIs in compliance with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- What we access: your Google profile email and display name (via the
openid email profile scopes), and the list of YouTube channels and topics you are subscribed to (via the youtube.readonly scope).
- How we use it: we map your YouTube subscriptions and topic categories to interest tags on your Icebreaker profile so we can match you with people who share those interests at real-world events. That is the only use.
- Sharing: we do not transfer YouTube data to any third party except as necessary to provide the Icebreaker service, comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets with appropriate notice. We never use or transfer YouTube data for serving ads, including retargeting, personalized, or interest-based advertising.
- Human reading: we do not allow humans to read YouTube data, except (a) with your explicit consent, (b) for security purposes such as investigating abuse, (c) to comply with applicable law, or (d) where the data has been aggregated and anonymized.
- Retention: imported interest tags are kept on your profile until you remove them or delete your account. We do not retain YouTube access tokens after the import completes.
- Revoking access: you can revoke Icebreaker's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, or by tapping Disconnect next to YouTube on your Icebreaker Profile tab.
Other Connected Services
The same handling principles above apply to data we import from Spotify, Discord, and GitHub: used only to build your interest profile, never sold or shared with advertisers, deletable from your profile or account settings, and revocable from each provider's account settings.
Children
Icebreaker is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Effective date" above will reflect the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated to active users by email or in-app notice.
